Xóm Phao is a small riverside community on the edge of the Red River in Hà Nội. I first came there through a summer program organized with the neighborhood's children.
On afternoons in Xóm Phao, the children pull me along from one game to another, each time toward a different view. Through their movements, invitations, and shifting attention, a picture of the neighborhood gradually emerges, not as a fixed map, but as a network of places continually made and remade as the children gather, drift apart, disagree, and find one another again.
