Thảo Bùi, Everyday Notes, 2025, installation view of drawings and handwritten journal entries from a parent-child collaborative project.

150 drawings

Pencil, marker, ballpoint pen, nail polish on paper

21 × 27 cm each

Over 30 days, the free drawings of five autistic children are placed alongside their mothers’ written entries. Each drawing and text share a surface, but neither is asked to explain the other.

A child’s imagined world may sit beside a mother’s account of work, illness, errands, or exhaustion. The project follows these parallel rhythms of family life: two forms of attention that rarely align, yet continue side by side through the interruptions and responsibilities of everyday life.

Woke up in the morning to find that rats had chewed through an electrical wire, leaving the refrigerator without power. I couldn’t get anything done all day, feeling like there was an unresolved knot somewhere inside. In the evening, sawed, drilled, and sealed the rat hole. Feeling exhausted. And gold prices are really high these days, aren’t they?

The cold weather has caused my vasculitis flare-ups to reappear all over my legs. Feeling so down. Chasing customers for payments but still nothing. Every end of the month, I send emails that seem to disappear into the void, sometimes taking weeks to get a response. Doing business is so hard now!

An utterly empty day!!!

These days, everywhere I go I see flowers being sold along the streets, bursting with colors, yet I feel nothing. I don’t really like receiving flowers on festive occasions like this. But coming home to receive a flower drawing made by my daughter feels truly touching.

TODAY I HAVE SUCH A BAD HEADACHE, I DON’T WANT TO THINK OR DO ANYTHING AT ALL. :-(

It’s been a long time since I had to spend the night in a hospital. Time feels like it moves at a different speed here compared to the outside world. Time seems to depend solely on doctors’ rounds and the slow dripping of IV fluids…

Time flies, only two months left until the end of the year. Hope tomorrow won’t be cold and rainy. Still worried about the bike; not sure if it’s really fixed after four repairs.

Rainy and cold. Still took my child to school. Rain + cold + traffic jam combo :(

Got home in the evening and couldn’t do anything else because I fell asleep. If only there were more time and less sleeping.

There’s a plan I still haven’t finished after two days, every time I revise it, more problems arise. “Hey me, hang in there!!!”

I keep reminding myself to stay calm and more forgiving, yet sometimes I still lose control.

These days, images of floods and storms in Central Vietnam are heartbreaking. Is there a way for government support to truly improve the situation?

If only today could be split in half—one half at home, one half at work.
